Daniel Urban, Virtual Law Clerk
Mr. Urban holds a B.A. in history from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and is currently a law student at the Michigan State University College of Law. He plans to obtain his Juris Doctor in May of 2009. His legal interests include business and securities law, taxation, and contract law.
EXPERIENCE
MSU College of Law Tax Clinic, East Lansing, MI, May 2007 – May 2008.
Assisted and counseled low-income individuals in controversy with the IRS and the Michigan Department of Treasury. Responsible for correspondence and submissions to government entities on behalf of individual clients. Negotiated a favorable settlement for a client-taxpayer at IRS Chief Counsel’s Office in Detroit, reducing her tax debt from $50,439 to $14,000. Participated in classroom sessions designed to educate international students in federal, state, and local income tax law.
Legal Extern, Michigan Tax Tribunal, Lansing, MI, May 2008 - Present
Currently works as a legal extern for the Michigan Tax Tribunal; an administrative court with jurisdiction over all Michigan tax appeals. Assists administrative law judges in legal research and case preparation for tax appeals, and reviews submitted briefs and drafts orders in response to motions.
