Ever visited a website that has a domain name that includes "sucks" in it? How about a gripe site, or a web site that allegedly attacks, exposes, or complains about a person, company, service, or product? Corporations have started to test their ability to use the courts to dismantle gripe sites which disparage them. In some instances, they attack the use of the domain name which may include the corporations trademark. In other instances, they attack the use of the companies name in the text of of the web pages. Trademark violation and cybersquatting allegations are the favorite legal theories used by lawyers attempting to shut down so-called gripe sites.
